Self-portraits, at Cardiff Castle, Sophia Gardens: The Last Leaves Falling

I took these photos in the beginning of December when I went to Cardiff to see my sweetheart.
We decided to have an early morning and went for a long lovely walk in the park where I did a quick self-portraiture. Afterwards, we went to have some brunch and had a look at the marketplace, lovely day. ^.^

PhotoTipTricks:

For this shoot I used 'Available Light' so no flash or reflectors. The sun was slightly clouded so it wasn't too harsh, easier to manipulate and risk of Light Burn is deminished. With 'Available Light you have to notice where the light falls on the subject as you dont want an underexposed face or miss details of the clothing. So you position the subject in accordance with where the light comes through, while adding a  natural effect as you mess about with angles. The subject can be looking directly towards the sun or slightly at an angle to create some emotive shadows. Also, keep in mind that when shooting near, behind or under branches/leaves you have to acknowledge that they can cause their own shadows if the sun is too bright - hence a cloudy sun becomes very beloved.

However, for a more Dramatic Effect for a shoot the harsh light of the sun can be used to accentuate facial structures by manipulating where the shadows fall, just remember to expose the subject correctly so you don't Light Burn. These types of photos are mainly desired in black and white - drawing inspiration from the classics, work by Masters of Photography. It is good to keep specific shadows in the photo or imperfections as they add a genuine quality to the image - reflecting Black & White natural documentary affect to an image because of its past usages.
